Kingmaker Chronicles

Letter to Kyonin

To her Royal Majesty Telandia Edasseril

It is with great joy that I write to you of the rediscovery of ancient Viridion. As I am sure you are aware, Viridion was one of the most beautiful and magical of the old elven Settlements. It was here that your own crown was enchanted (as I have been reminded by a noble friend). I am pleased to report that both the beauty and the magic remain untarnished by time and that the original keep still stands.

I currently find myself in the somewhat difficult position of owing allegiance to two Queens. Your Royal self and Her Royal Majesty Uryllia of Sairathis. I am sure you have heard of the Fey Queen of this land, her beauty, fairness and desire to do well for her people are matched only by your own. Let me assure you that my loyalty to your Royal self is in no conflict with the loyalty I give to her. Queen Uryllia and her kingdom are young but show great promise and I believe the futures of Kyonin and Sairathis may be closely entwined.

With the support of Queen Uryllia I have started a small elven settlement here in this highly defensible and majestic location. I am aware of the nobles who clamor at you to reclaim the lands we have lost and would like to offer Viridion as a small part of the solution. In short, we need elven settlers and lots of them if Viridion is going to reclaim its former glory. We can offer them support and the protection of being part of Sairathis and the joy of exploring the wonders of the Fey populated woods surrounding Viridion.

It is with great hope in your benevolent help for our cause that I make this plea and pray to Calistria that I do not presume too much.

Yours Truly

Prince Lanliss Gyre, Lord of Viridion, Marshall of Sairathis

The Abandoned Fort

To the Revered Lord Mayor Sellemius

It has come to my attention that there is a fort adjacent to our border. Given recent strange occurrences I am seeking leave to guard this area for the protection of both of our regions as I feel it important that this defensive post not be used to our detriment. I seek only permission for the free use of the fort and have no desire to contest ownership of the land. A stable region is to the benefit of both of us and I will continue to engage my resources to this effect.

The Sword and my Daughter

Duchess Uryllia

Many thanks to you and yours for the recovery of a family heirloom. The greatsword you have found seems to date back many years. Though it is always a sad circumstance when such treasure is found (since it obviously means that a relative died in some horrible fashion) it does now provide us with opportunity for better relations with you and your followers.

Keeping in this spirit I wish you to keep our family’s sword to do with what you will. Since these are dangerous and stressful times it is always good to have one more friend. In this also I would like to announce the visit of my daughter, Princess Jennavieve Kensen who will soon travel to your lands as a guest. I ask you to look after her as you would your own daughter. As you may know, Brevoy is heading into difficult times and it would ease my mind to know that my daughter is safe and well cared for.

Good luck with your future ventures.

Highlord Kensen of Issia

Over three glorious days those who would seek to gain the prize will battle, think and charm their way through nine events with one contestant being crowned champion of the Gilded Peony.

Entry to the tourney is limited and any citizen or visitor to Sairathis may petition to enter for a place among the twelve chosen. For further details seek an official in any Sairathis town or city.

For those who seek not fame or fortune the tourney offers three days of entertainment, stuffed tighter than a prized hogs belly, and a year’s worth of memories that may change your mind about fortune and fame.

after Vordakai

OH SH*%T

What do you do???????
I dont like running away almost as much as I don’t like doing what I am told. I mean being compelled of course, I am not a petulant child!
I felt like an ant. . .me! an ant!
What he did to that town. . now that he is awake… well no choice really
We need information, I will talk to Beldame. Maybe the centaurs can give us some information about him. Oh at least THAT went well, kind of. Seeing little foals crying because they are scared on humans is disturbing.

F*$3K being a queen is stressful

Excerpt from 'The Untold Heritage of the Taldan Armies of Exploration'
Uncovered in the Waterhorse Inn, Varnhold

And so it was, high upon the Torres and well above the Vale’s Stairs, where rises the high water a stony isle of dire report. Known as Vordakai’s Island to those that do live thereabout, some legen of its name doth come down through the locals. For they speak of a guardian that doth destroy all who would set foot upon its accursed shores. They did name no fewer than a twelvecount of their hero-knights who had left their bones upon its rocky shores over the years after having tested their mettle against its dread warden, ’til none would any longer go there for fear of its hidden terrors. And the name of this terror was given unto this island.

Baron Maegar Vahns disappearance

Sairathis is finally living up to its name with the last few years being quite prosperous. I hope Jhod appreciates his Cathedral and won’t complain too much when we start to allow temples to other gods. I do not pay much attention to any of the gods but I appreciate that they are important to others and while Erastil has played an important part in the establishment of the kingdom she is not the Goddess of my father and do we not all deserve our freedoms? I do not expect a repeat of the cult incident now that we have our laws in place.

To finally bring Tatzlford under our control is a relief as with each passing year there grew the risk they would mistakenly believe they did not need our rule. The Greenbelt, although safer due to the presence of the broken arrow, is still a wild place so it is good that they now have our direct protection. The extra towns also provide Lanliss and Rogar with something to do besides drink and make use of the brothel. Refa’s suggestion to establish towns for each of us to patron is an excellent one. I hope this will prove enough of a distraction to my fellows so that the tedious bickering over the mix of our citizenry and the forests may cease. I would hate for anyone to feel the need to employ Lily in order to ease the headaches.

The years of prosperity are somewhat marred by the recent news that Varnhold has not been in contact. It has been two months since I have corresponded with Maegar and there was nothing to indicate trouble in his letters. Clearly whatever has happened has done so quickly. While I hope to find him alive it seems unlikely father will agree to our marriage and the prospect of joining our kingdoms. I could likely convince mother however she has been a little peevish in her letters since she found out father is in town and his presence as well makes it harder to go against his wishes. It would be easier alas to combine our charters if Maegar has perished but if he is alive we should be able to at least claim the land to the mountains anyway. I doubt he has explored that region and it may be where the trouble has originated from. I do hope he has survived, that a sword lord might perish under these circumstances indicates a powerful enemy. Assuming it is not the same source of our own frustrations, the matter of the owl bear deception is still unresolved. I am not happy that someone seeks to disrupt my kingdom and would have them hung if I could but name them.

I hope that Akiros will be able to prevent any incidents happening in Sairathis while we attend to Varnhold. I would be very peeved to come back and find another fat faced Grigori being paid to spread lies. Maybe Akiros would make a good husband, he doesn’t argue with me as much as the others and he did distinguish himself in his efforts during the owl bear attack as well as saving my life when we faced the Stag Lord. Not that father will agree to him either! At this rate I will never have heirs for the kingdom. Father had best supply some suitors soon or I am liable to marry the first man I do more than kiss. Maegar kisses well; it would be a shame if he has died, not that kisses are the only thing I will miss about him. Perhaps there may be benefit to prayer after all if it can keep him safe until we can rescue him.

Military Update
Be Not Afraid!

Citizens of Sairathis,

Your fearless General, with the aid of other members of the glorious Order of the Broken Arrow has been mobilised. Your Heroes, who annihilated the Troll menace to the South, will return the head of the beastly Owlbear which has terrorised our magnificent Capital, and decorate a Tavern with its hide.

The Queen and High Council thank all the valiant soldiers of the Sairathis Armed Forces for their efforts against the monstrous creature.

Rest assured citizens, a new and improved Tavern is on the way!

Marshal's Report
Squelch

This month there has been little unusual activity within the boundaries of the Sairathis, except the unfortunate incident with the werewolf. As this happened within Hartsfall it falls under the Jurisdiction of the Warden and I will not go into detail, except to mention that the matter is resolved. Exploration of the forest has continued with the discovery of new Fey allies (Immanuel will be pleased), the relocation of some loggers and the destruction of a scythe tree. No sign yet of the green dragon reported by the sword lords.

An expedition to explore the South was mounted, mainly due to persistant rumours of trolls in the area. No trolls were found but several monsters were slain including a giant turtle that was bothering local fishermen, an owlbear, a tendriculous, a hill giant and a small lizardfolk settlement. As a side note, there is little so amusing as watching a hill giant trying to step on a Dwarf who has just cut the brutes foot off.
